14 leading international and South African chefs collaborate for a good cause
From 19-24 September 2016 the ‘Chefs who Share – the ART of Giving’ event week will take place in Johannesburg for the first time. Furthermore, fourteen acclaimed chefs and seven top sommeliers will come together to create exclusive culinary delights. This will be to raise money for Youth Development in South Africa.
And you can be there to taste their exceptional creations and contribute to the good cause!
Three leading Johannesburg hotels will each host a once-off ‘Chefs who Share’ Pre-Dinner. The hotel’s Executive Chef will collaborate with an international chef flown in specifically for the event week.

Exceptional art on auction to raise funds for Youth Development in South Africa
The ‘Chefs who Share’ Grand Gala on 24 September is the highlight of the event week. Here the 14 chefs and seven sommeliers work in seven teams to wow a total of just 252 guests. In addition, it’s an evening where like-minded people meet in a “spirit of giving”.
Artwork donated by leading local and international artists is auctioned during the course of the black-tie dinner, with all proceeds going to the nominated charities.
Local celebrity Katlego Maboe acts as MC. Also, there is entertainment by some of South Africa’s top musicians. The winner of the ‘Chefs who Share – Young Chef Award’ is also announced at the Grand Gala. The media has described it as “the feelgood event”.

Michelin-starred Indian chef spices up the menu
Vineet Bhatia, the first Indian chef-patron to be awarded a Michelin star in the UK, has built an extraordinary reputation as one of the world’s most exciting, creative and accomplished Indian chefs. He leaves his award-winning London restaurant Rasoi – and its sister establishments around the world – to cook in South Africa for the first time. He will collaborate with Dirk Gieselmann, Executive Chef at Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff, for the first Pre-Dinner event and will also be one of the 14 chefs cooking at the Grand Gala.
Crystal Cruises star brings his culinary talent ashore
Austrian Andreas Schalek got his culinary training at Vienna’s prestigious Hotel Imperial. Also, he now travels the world as an Executive Chef for Crystal Cruises. Here he presides over a galley of 90 staff, and ensures the pantry is well stocked for the 1 400 breakfasts, lunches and dinners served each day. But, he will cook for just 36 guests at the Grand Gala, where he forms a formidable team with Marthinus Ferreira of DW Eleven-13 and sommelier Pearl Oliver from Taj Cape Town.
LUX* Resorts & Hotels adds Mauritian flavour to the event
French-born Vincent Rodier is Executive Chef at LUX* Belle Mare, where he presides over Beach Rouge. Also, known for its relaxed French Riviera feel and fresh-from-the-sea offerings, it’s considered one of the premier dining destinations on Mauritius.
Together with Sun International’s Jocelyn Myers-Adams, he will cook at the second Pre-Dinner at The Maslow in Sandton on 21 September. He’s also cooking at the Grand Gala, where he’ll make a strong team with chef Christo Pretorius and sommelier Gregory Mutambe, both from The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa in Cape Town. .
Belgian TV chef and author delivers French flair
Piet Huysentruyt, the popular star of long-running Flemish TV show SOS Piet and the author of five bestselling cookbooks. Now he heads up the acclaimed Michelin-starred Likoké restaurant in the Ardèche region of France.
He has a strong bond with South Africa and spends a couple of weeks every year in the country, usually in Franschhoek.
He will bring his creative culinary flair to the Grand Gala on 24 September, where he teams up with chef Candice Philip of the Saxon Hotel, Villas & Spa and her colleague, award-winning sommelier Lloyd Jusa.
