Sitting indoors all winter long can make winter allergies worse. In fact, new ones can even crop up. However, because allergy symptoms are so similar to the common cold — like sneezing, sniffling and watery eyes — most people don’t know that they are actually suffering from allergies.

For others, winter is nothing but a long, troubling allergy season. If you’re one of those people, who finds winter to be a long, troubling allergy season, don’t stress.  There are many natural ways to keep your seasonal allergies at bay.. And today, we have five of the best for you:

1. Use peppermint, lavender and lemon essential oil

Essential oils can help curb your allergy symptoms very quickly. The oils will act as a natural antihistamine and can stop the inflammatory response associated with allergies. And, you can have them at your disposal because they’re so easy to carry around. For excellent results, diffuse a mixture of these three oils in your workspace or bedroom. You can also put a few drops on your temples or under your nose.

2. Take a probiotic supplement

We all know how important gut health is to your overall health. This holds for allergies as well considering 75% of your immune system is in your gut. So, for a healthy gut, take a daily probiotic supplement or eat probiotic-rich foods such as kefir and Kombucha. They won’t only boost your immune and gut health, but will also make you less vulnerable to allergies.

3. Use locally produced honey

Locally produced honey containing local pollen is one of the best remedies for managing allergy symptoms. It minimizes your allergy symptoms by sensitizing you. This concept is similar to that of immunisation or homeopathy, where a little exposure causes your immune system to trigger a protective response.

4. Take apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has so many uses, and the allergy fighting effects are not well known. Simply take 30 ml of unfiltered apple cider vinegar per day to help calm inflammation, maintain an alkaline pH and balance your digestive health.

5. Go dairy-free!

Dairy is one of the biggest culprits behind allergies. Dairy can worsen inflammation and immune response. So, try to reduce your dairy intake to less than one serving per day. And, if you have very severe allergy symptoms, then it’s best to eliminate it from your diet.
