The Kirya Kuti Project is an afro-fussion and jazz ensemble. It consists of vibrant music pioneers with an authentic sound that will leave you mesmerized.

The Kirya Kuti Project will get you off your feet and swaying to the groove

The idea to start the Kirya Kuti Project formed in 2015. This 5-piece band consists of the Thulani, Lulama and Kim on the marimbas, Kirya on Sax and steel drum and, Kurt on drums. The artists all live and perform in the beautiful mother city. However, they all originate from different townships with different tastes in music and varying influences. Bringing these differing backgrounds together to create an entirely unique sound, this vibrant mix of musicians released their debut album, The Architect, mid-2015.

The leader of the Project, Kirya Kuti, attended the Frank Pietersen music school in Paarl (Western Cape). This was to study the fine art of classical and jazz music. Thus, drawing on both of these timeless forms of music Kirya blended the fresh sound that you hear today in the Kirya Kuti Project. Some of his standout moments include playing at the Les Escales festival in 2016 with Native Young. Also,  playing the Cape Town light festival with the Frank Pacco project and playing the Saljah festival in Dubai in 2013 and, touring Germany, Denmark and, Austria in 2009.

If you love local music and want to hear more from these talented musos come and support them at Cappello on Long Street in Cape Town every Thursday and Sunday evening. They will also play at the Cape Town Marathon on the 17th September 2017. Lastly, you can visit their online sites at:
