If you are anything like me, I take one look at the word Detox and want to hide. Don’t get discouraged by this word! Many people have very different ideas of detoxing their bodies.

The festive period has come and gone and I know what you’ve been up to parties, beach days, lots of food and fun in the sun. We all want to look good and feel good after the festive season. There is nothing worse than having to start the year with an new wardrobe because you packed on the pounds over the festive period This is why we are here to help.

Many people hear the word ‘detox’ and relate it to: no food, no fun. But that is far from the truth. Detoxing your body does not in any way mean that you need to starve yourself or deprive yourself of all the deliciousness around you. It simply means looking after your body and being more aware of what you put inside it.

Below I have listed a few ideas of how you can start a summer detox without the stress that comes with it:

1. Water! Water? Water!

This is the most important rule of detoxification. Your body (especially in the summer season) needs to keep hydrated! ‘They’ say, that you should drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. Make drinking water fun, by adding a variety of sliced fruit into a glass of water with ice, this gives it a natural flavour and tastes so good!

2. Make fruit your friend

Don’t listen to those people who tell you that fruit is bad and will make you fat. Fruit has a natural sugar called fructose, it is very different to putting a chocolate slab into your mouth. Fruits have many detoxing benefits! You do, however need to be careful about which are the healthiest fruits and which would not benefit to your health. I stick to Berries, Apples, Pears, Pineapple, Papaya and Kiwi.

3. Vegetables, Natures medicine

Vegetables are so good for you! A lot of vegetables are considered an ‘unlimited’ food, because of their low calorie and highly nutritious content. There are so many different vegetables to try, you could never get bored of eating them. I enjoy having salads at lunch time and the more filling vegetables (Sweet potato, Brocolli, Cauliflower, Butternut etc..) at dinner time.

4. The Detox Trick

Well there really is no trick to becoming healthy than to eat healthy. As long as you focus on staying away from the Simple Carbs like bread and sugar, and stick to the more complex carbs, your body will be well on its way to a good detox.

Once you feel you are at a healthy level of nutrition, you could try one of our more extreme detox programmes which include juicing and raw eating.
