A smoothie bowl is another way to enjoy smoothies with a spoon instead of drinking them with a straw. However there is more to it than just a change in utensil! Think of it as a complete nutrient-dense makeover of your normal cereal and milk breakfast choice.

Matthew Ballenden, Nutritional Chef and Owner of Fresh Earth Food Store, has developed a range of recipes that are both gluten free and dairy free “Depending on the ingredients used, smoothie bowls are not only great to have for breakfast but as a post-workout meal, a quick lunch or even dessert,” says Matthew.smoothie bowl

The smoothie bowl is thicker in consistency, making it not only satisfying but adds a nutritious twist on cereal. The frozen fruits used in smoothie bowls are great for not only thickening the smoothie, but also for adding natural sweetness and creaminess. Frozen bananas in particular are a perfect foundation for a smoothie bowl, as they hit each of these key points perfectly.

Swapping your smoothie from a cup to a bowl means you will have a bigger surface to get creative with, you can top your smoothie with fresh fruit, nuts, muesli or granola to add a bit of crunch.

A Smoothie Bowl that’s dairy-free, gluten-free, full of protein and fresh fruit and totally delicious. Satisfying and easy to make, too!
