It’s that time of the year again, where sleeping in an extra hour seems like a much better idea than dragging yourself out into the cold to work out.  But this year, that is not an option for you if you want to fit into those gorgeous skinnies you’ve been eyeing out…  We have come up with a list of 6 Ways To Keep Fit This Winter: Time to get looking and feeling good!

1. Set Goals

A good start to the winter season would be to set yourself some goals. Think of what you would ultimately like to achieve this winter, that you weren’t able to last winter.

A steady head space is often more important than the actual exercise. It is very important for your mind to be in sync with your body.

 

2. Walk, Hike, or Run

The quickest way to get warmed up, and stay warm is to get your heart rate going, whether it is in the gym, up the mountain or on the beach.

Running is unquestionably a great way to keep fit in winter since it burns a large amount of calories and keeps your metabolism moving.

Did you know that a lot of people get depressed during the winter months? We naturally tend to eat more and move less, which leads to guilt and anxiety. However, when we exercise, our bodies release endorphins and hormones that encourage a positive mood state.

 

3. Yoga

You don’t have to be a Vinyasa Guru to practice the art of yoga. This beautiful activity is great during the winter months. Through breathing techniques and strength training positions, you will notice an increase in your energy and flexibility.

 

4. Try something new

Change is great! It really gets you motivated. Last year I jumped onto the Kayla Itsines bandwagon, and after finishing her 12-week program I downloaded the Nike Club Training App and started doing the 5km Park Run on Saturdays. All these ‘different’ activities keep me motivated and excited about working out.

 

5. Learn to love yourself

Remember one thing – no one is perfect. We are all our own worst critics. Once you learn to love yourself and the skin you are in, your life will fall into place. Exercising and eating healthy shouldn’t be a chore, but rather a reward to yourself and your body.
