South Africans coming together in support of the 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day, to make the Guinness Book of Records!
You have done GOOD!!! (How is that for proper English?!) I applaud each and every one of you who has, stitch by stitch, made every single day a MANDELA DAY!!
What a year 2015 has been for us! We have strived and we have succeeded in creating THOUSANDS of blankets with our own two hands. We made history by SMASHING the Guinness Book of Records with the most spectacular display of thousands upon thousands of blankets at the Union Buildings on April 21
AND we started distributing our beautiful blankets that we made with our own two hands as soon as the cold struck us in South Africa. We did not wait for July 18th – Madiba’s birthday – to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. We responded to the IMMEDIATE needs of our people. We are warming the hearts and bodies of many thousands of people, not just in South Africa, but around the world.
I am incredibly proud of us as a collective. We have become a family. Together we have climbed mountains!! Literally!!!
Actually – we had Jono make a blanket on his climb up Kilimanjaro – and he showed off his stunning creation when he summited on Nelson Mandela’s birthday.
He did us proud! And he raised our 67 Blankets flag higher than high!!!
We have been on the receiving end of extraordinary generosity from the most unexpected places. Our most recent being the donation of 4 tons of wool, from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, to use to make blankets!!! Madiba is surely smiling down on us.I love each and every single one of you for what you have done to make us one of the
most powerful and extraordinary groups on Facebook. Together we are succeeding in weaving our people together with bright, colorful thread and I look so forward to our big plans for 2016.
Good wool wishes,
Carolyn
I love the photograph of Madiba and all the blankets
Thank you for your comment Gethyn. I agree, that is an amazing shot.
