Anger – The Power of Letting Go

Anger - Letting go

We all have someone (or some situation) who sits uncomfortable in our hearts. Something or someone who (because of a choice we made to not let go) holds us back from living our rightful happiness.

For the past 6 months I have been feeling energetically unsettled toward someone in my life. He has been coming up for me more and more: little signs from the universe, strange synchronicities, and just finding myself mentioning him more now than ever.

I pay attention to signs

I notice patterns and what some call ‘co-incidences’. And, I knew this person was coming up for me because with Yoga (and my deepening practice of Kundalini Yoga) our bodies are constantly shifting, and sifting, energetically. Layer by layer, our old hurts, pains, and fears (like muck) start rising to the surface. We can’t help it; it’s a positive ‘side effect’ of the practice. We are left with two choices: either we push them back under all the old rubble (“I’ll deal with you later… now’s not the right time…”) OR we can take the opportunity to clear it up so that we never have to face it again.

One option makes you a victim; the other is only for victors!

You see, yoga can’t do the work for us; but, it can be a powerful tool to bring up old patterns, and help us to shift and process them, leaving us lighter, and freer to live our bliss. If we don’t “do the work” we risk manifesting dis-ease, and all other forms of nastiness. Hatha yoga will help you to clear and cleanse the physical and energetic systems.

Kundalini yoga will raise your vibration and make it easier for you to process and heal, and ascend within yourself. Meditation will wash the mind clean, and mantra will re-align you to your natural causeway along the waters of life, toward your personal Northern Star.

For the first time ever, I found myself teaching classes with themes like “Kriya to Relieve Inner Anger” and Meditations for Forgiveness. My inner voice was gently guiding me toward my own path to forgiveness, and it was reflecting in my teaching. My students (who are in fact, my teachers) began to mirror to me what I needed to see…

We all receive what we need when we need it

Forgiveness can be a long journey, with many layers to unpeel. The first step is to start by just allowing yourself to LET GO of the hold you have allowed anger to take over you – not for anyone else’s benefit, but you own.

Finally, on Fathers’ Day, a special angel mentioned that she had received an insight for me to contact my dad. It was now or never. I checked my ego at the door, picked up the phone, took a deep breath in and (like taking the plunge into icy waters) took the leap and pressed CALL.

The conversation that ensured thereafter has left me feeling FREE – lighter, happier, and as if a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. This wasn’t because we discussed anything important. We didn’t ‘make amends’. We just spoke. And, we caught up. We hung up with a laugh. It felt right. As always, life is a combination of ‘doing things right and doing the right things’. We can allow the guidance of Earth Angels (like my friend), personal guides, subtle messages, and our Inner Guru’s voice to nudge us in the right direction.

Life takes courage. But when we practice the deeper arts of energetic mindfulness, we cannot help but be guided toward situations that can take us to a new level of spiritual growth – if we just have the courage and wisdom to listen… and take that next step. It’s never easy. But no one said it was supposed to be.

What you will you receive at your journey’s end?

I can’t say… but I have a feeling you will feel lighter than before, and freer to move forward – and leave the past where it belongs.

For those of you who (like me) need some loving guidance and support from Spirit, I have found much healing in using this very simple, but powerful, Kriya (taught to us by Yogi Bhajan). I would love to share this gift with you now:

Stress Relief and Clearing Emotions of the Past

This meditation is especially useful for dealing with stressful relationships and with past family issues. It addresses phobias, fears, and neuroses. Furthermore, it can remove unsettling thoughts from the past that surface into the present. It can take difficult situations in the present and release them into the Hands of Infinity. Practice for the full time given or until you feel relief from the stress.

Time: Anywhere from 3 to 31-minutes

1. Sit in Easy Pose (legs crossed) with a straight spine – or else sit in a chair
2. Place the hands at the center of the chest with the tips of the thumbs touching each other and each of the fingers touching the corresponding fingers on the opposite hand
3. Leave space between the palms. The fingertips are pointing upward
4. Look at the tip of the nose (as if you have a little lady bug on the tip of your nose that you want to look at)
5. Breathe 4 times per minute: inhale 5 seconds, hold 5 seconds, exhale 5 seconds
6. Continue for 3-31minutes, or until you feel relief from the stress.

Please leave your comments below. I would love to hear about your experiences upon the journey towards forgiveness by taking that next step of LETTING GO… let’s clear our hang ups of the past, and step forward into a brighter, freer future… for all.
