Essential Antioxidants To Prevent Diabetes

antioxidants

People with diabetes normally show low levels of antioxidants in their bodies. Free radicals overtake their systems and create insulin imbalance.

However, you already know that the one thing that can get rid of free radicals and the chain reaction they cause is a diet rich in antioxidants. Antioxidants help defend your body from the effects of diabetes such as inflammation and nerve damage to the brain.

So, whether you eat in restaurants daily or cook from home, there are common foods that contain them. Here is a list of diabetic fighting antioxidants and the foods that contain them:

Vitamin C

You can get vitamin C from leafy greens, peppers, broccoli, kiwi, cauliflower, strawberries and citrus fruits.

Carotenoids

You can find these in beans, seaweed and in cold compressed oils such as flaxseed, sesame and olive oils.

Vitamin E

Kiwi fruit, tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, olive oil and nuts – particularly walnuts and almonds.

Coenzyme Q

Organ meats, fish and whole grains contain Coenzyme Q.

Sesame Oil available on our online store

Naringenin

You can find this in grapefruit. It’s the chemical compound that gives grapefruit its sour/bitter taste.

Zinc

Sesame seeds, oysters and dark chocolate are loaded with zinc which helps improve insulin function.

Pterostilbene

This is a natural compound found in grapes and berries. It helps protect the insulin secreting beta cells in your pancreas.

Chromium

You can find this in corn, sweet potatoes, seafood or brewer’s yeast. A deficiency in chromium is common in diabetes patients.
