Most people associate burnout to laziness. But, it’s real.  You’re ways tired, unmotivated and constantly checking how long it is until you can go home. You struggle to wake up even after sleeping for 10 hours. These are signs of  burnout. It’s time you started listening to your body . But, before I tell you about burnout exercises, let’s first talk a little more about it.

                                 What exactly is burnout?

Burnout is a state of mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion caused by prolonged and excessive stress. However, I want to focus more on work burnout. The chronic state of job stress than can tank not only your performance but your emotional well-being too. Simply put, burnout is the feeling that you can’t cope with your workload. It just doesn’t suddenly happen. The signs and symptoms are subtle at first, but get worse with time. It leaves you feeling disillusioned, helpless and completely exhausted.

But you don’t have to put up with it. And, you don’t have to quit your job either (who can do that anyway?). These relatively simple exercises can help you manage and alleviate this pressure.

The key to preventing work burnout – Exercise

Exercise is usually the last thing you feel like doing when you’re exhausted. However, exercise is not only a powerful antidote but also something you can do to boost your mood. In fact, according to researchers from the University of New England in Australia, exercise has the potential to be an effective burnout intervention.

Try to exercise for at least 30 minutes a day. You can break this up into short, 10-minute bursts of activity. A 10-minute walk improves your mood for two hours. As you walk, instead of focusing on your thoughts, focus on your body and how it feels as you move such as the sensation of your feet hitting the ground.

Rhythmic exercise is also great for burnout. This is where you move both your arms and legs. It helps boost your mood, increases energy, sharpens focus, and relaxes both the mind and body. If you can, try to run, lift weights, swim or even dance.

Meditating regularly can help reduce burnout. Whenever you’re feeling frizzed and frazzled, try to meditate. You don’t have to join a yoga studio, all you need is a yoga mat and the internet. It works wonders.

End your exercise off with a hot cup of green tea.

    1. Hi Melissa, It’s not necessarily linked to laziness. It’s just that people start to classify you as lazy because you’re always too tired to do anything. You start to miss deadlines and the like. Burnout can take a toll on you if it’s not managed.
