There are a wide variety of honey liqueurs, and often they are also made with herbs and spices. However, because there is also a wide variety of honey it’s possible to make batches of honey liqueur that all taste completely different.

It’s very easy to make your own honey liqueur. All you have to do is heat the honey with some water and then mix it with vodka. The flavors integrate better when left overnight, but if you’re truly impatient you can use it right away. Here’s my favourite honey liqueur recipe:

Honey Liqueur recipe

700ml vodka
500g honey
8 cloves
2 tsp vanilla
1 Lemon zest
1 Orange zest
A pinch cinnamon

Heat a little vodka in a pot and add a little honey so that the bottom is covered. Wait for the honey to dissolve while constantly stirring. Then add all the spices and lemon and orange zest except for the vanilla. Then continue to fill with honey and vodka until everything is in the pot. Stir constantly and ensure that the honey melts – but doesn’t boil.  Finally, add the vanilla and take it off the heat. Put the lid on the pot and let it steep for 2 hours.
