What’s your body absorbing every time you brush with regular toothpaste? Well, I’ll tell you. Artificial flavourings, sodium lauryl sulfates (SLS), parabens, colourings, fluoride, glycerin and more.

Fluoride is not great, but SLS is even worse. It’s been linked to a lot of health issues, including cancer. So, you can buy one of the many organic toothpaste brands or make your own – using coconut oil loaded with antibacterial properties. Here are two toothpaste recipes…

Coconut oil and baking soda toothpaste recipe

This recipe will make just a little over one cup of toothpaste. What’s nice about it is that you can store it in a jar in the fridge for up to four months. Also, it can keep in your medicine cabinet at room temperature for up to 14 days.

Toothpaste Ingredients:

1/2 cup bentonite clay
1/8 tsp salt
2 tsp baking soda
2/3 cup water
1/4 cup coconut oil
1 tsp stevia (optional)
4 drops of peppermint essential oil

Mix the salt and clay in a bowl. Then add the water and mix well. Mix in the rest of the ingredients until it forms a paste. Store it in a jar with a lid. When you want to use it, spoon some onto your toothbrush. You can dampen the paste by putting your brush under some gently running water and brushing the Coconut oil and peppermint toothpaste recipe

Ingredients:

1 tbsp baking soda
1 drop of peppermint or lemon essential oil
A few drops of water

Mix the ingredients in a bowl until it forms a paste. Then brush your teeth as usual.
