If you’ve tried mixing your own baking soda products, you’ve probably noticed how gritty the concoction is. On the molecular level, baking soda is actually quite coarse.
After all, we do use it to scrub the grime off our pots and pans, isn’t it? When we use baking soda for heavy cleaning, we also take advantage of its absorbency. In fact, our friends with straight hair can use it as a dry shampoo. When applied to the roots, it can soak up the oil that visibly travels down the strands of a straight hair.
My experience with baking soda
Therefore, if it can soak up oily hair, how would it possibly benefit dry, coily hair like mine. I must admit, this would be a good cleanser after a protective hair style like extensions. It takes me back to my very first experience with baking soda as a conditioner. The mixture consisted of my favourite conditioner, so the pH was probably not as alkaline as pure baking soda. However, the goal of our hair products is usually to leave the pH of the hair balanced, so that the cuticle lies flat, locking precious moisture in.
According to my research and experience, the kinkier/curlier the hair, the more beneficial it would be not to use this product. Anyway, I still ended up using baking soda in a hair rinse again with the conditioner remedy. I must say that I’m very impressed with the results! My hair and scalp aren’t dry but fresh. The baking soda looks like it has replenished the moisture and natural oil levels in my hair. So, try it out for yourself! It’s an inexpensive and effective remedy for regulating the oil levels in your hair.
