Have you started implementing your New Year’s resolutions? If you haven’t. it’s not too late to set new goals for yourself and get rid of all those habits that are not only damaging your health but crippling your finances.
This is the right time to reconsider your financial situation. And, if you’ve been struggling to save in the past, you can make it your priority this year to starting saving. Here are some New Year’s resolutions that can help you achieve your financial goals.
1. It’s time to quit bad, expensive habits
How many times have you told yourself or even tried to stop drinking and smoking? Many right? Well, if you’ve been on this path, it’s time to make it happen in the year. Smoking is not only an expensive habit, but it also gradually deteriorates your health. So, quit smoking and put that cigarette money aside. You’ll be surprised at how much you’ll save, not forgetting that it’ll also help reduce health care costs in the long run.
2. Eat healthier
This is one resolution that most people think is easy to implement. That’s because of the common misconception that healthy food is more expensive and luxurious than unhealthy food. Right? Wrong!
Healthy eating doesn’t have to be expensive. You can stay within the budget and eat healthy, organic food. All you have to do is make some simple calculations. You will find that you probably spend much more on processed foods among other foods high in bad fats and calories, and low in nutrients. So, this year buy more fresh fruits and veggies, prepare your meals at home and save.
3. Establish a monthly savings goal
You’re prone to make the same money mistakes year in and year out if you don’t set financial goals. So, this year year, establish a clear monthly savings goal and ensure you’re putting aside that amount at the end of the month, before you spend on anything else.
4. Make settling your debt a priority
If debt has been your biggest struggle, don’t let 2018 end with you in the same financial position. Reduce on your spending and try to put more money towards paying off existing debts. This won’t happen overnight but walking a mile begins with one step.
