Finally, we have a Cape Town version of our favourite game:  Monopoly.  My brothers, sister and I have played Monopoly since we were little, and it is still our favourite game.  We introduced our kids to Monopoly at a very young age, and it is their favourite game.  Guess what is on our Xmas wish list for this year?  I went to the launch last Friday, and it was a delight to meet Mr Monopoly.  We were treated to champagne and delicious snacks.

We  then went on to throw some very large dice, and some of us (not me sadly), won a weekend away, and spa treatments amongst other amazing prizes.  It was a great day at the Waterfront. The weather was perfect, and everyone was in great spirits, as we relaxed and had fun.  There were loads of Celebrities, and representatives from all the places on the board.

CAPE TOWN MONOPOLY HAS ARRIVED! … and Cape Town’s elite turned out in full force to see it first.

Cape Town MONOPOLY was launched with much fanfare on Friday, 13th November at the V&A Waterfront to a group that included media and dignitaries including Cllr. Garreth Bloor, Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development for the City of Cape Town. Other VIPs that attended included Bulelwa Makalima-Ngewana, CEO of the Cape Town Partnership, Ajax Cape Town players (Aiden, Jody, Tashreeq, Marcelo and Olwethu), Siv Ngesi, Liezel van der Westhuizen, Cindy Nel, Danilo Acquisto and Stormers players (Scarra Ntubeni and Sikhumbuzo Notshe).

MONOPOLY Cape Town is the first in an expected long line of regional South African boards and considering the response to this inaugural edition, it won’t be long until the next one is announced.

The locations that made it onto the board include the V&A Waterfront; the Taj Hotel in Cape Town; Boulders, Muizenberg and Camps Bay Beaches; the Table Mountain Cableway and Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, and many more.

MONOPOLY fans were invited to vote for their favourite local venues to appear on the board from when the game launched in May, and voting was manic from the outset. The clear favourites however emerged quickly and Winning Moves, license holders for MONOPOLY regional editions, were able to translate the Mother City into its 2D, board game version.

“We have been looking forward to bringing a MONOPOLY Cape Town edition to South Africa for a long time, and we knew that there was a big board-gaming community and many loyal MONOPOLY fans, but we have been overwhelmed by the passionate and enthusiastic responses we’ve received,” says Dan Taylor of Winning Moves. “I see many Capetonians and Cape Town visitors receiving MONOPOLY Cape Town sets this festive season.”

Regional versions of the MONOPOLY board game have been produced for the last 15 years and to date the game is licensed in an astounding 103 countries.

Winning Moves, manufacturers of the Perth regional and city version of MONOPOLY board game under license from Hasbro, are the makers of this unique and official board under official license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro. The new board will be available at all good toy and bookstores across Cape Town from Friday, 13th November.
