Old Khaki presents their autumn/winter 2016 collection. This season, they put a new spin on old favourites. Rich burgundy, teal, rust and olive colours underpinned by dark denim call to mind the heyday of rock ’n’ roll and the free-wheeling decadent lifestyle that went with the ’70s – their inspiration for this collection.

The sounds of the ’70s greeted guests to Arcade with its retro décor – there was no doubt about it: Old Khaki has gone old school for AW16.
Rich burgundy, teal, rust and olive colours underpinned by dark denim call to mind the heyday of rock ’n’ roll and the free-wheeling decadent lifestyle that went with it. Suede, leather and denim rule the season at Old Khaki with soft knits and floral and paisley prints that soften the look and feel.
The Old Khaki men and women have asked for more leather and this season the leather bag range has been extended to include more satchels, cross body and messenger bags.

Models were positioned throughout the venue when guests arrived as a part of the collection installation and “came to life” for a walkthrough, which allowed guests to see and touch the clothing. Saskia Buxton of M.A.D. transformed the models with 70’s inspired hair and make-up – think exaggerated eyelashes and big hair, that retro energy – to embrace a collection that speaks to a season that is all about that period.
Wentzel van der Gryp of Roastin’ Records spun vinyls on a stage and guests were taken down memory lane with a bespoke Old Khaki cocktail named The Bronx, while enjoying tasty sliders and gourmet pizzas.

Fashion

What can be more ’70s than a midi paisley dress? Flared jeans, peasant-style blouses, roll neck jerseys, leather-look pants and leather biker jackets that look as if they stepped out of a music festival, form the backbone of the collection. Throw on a striped gillet, blanket wrap or layer a textured, long-sleeved Henley top with a denim shirt to keep warm and be stylishly prepared for any possibility.

Old Khaki has also extended their range of jackets with longer length hooded parkas and added more colours in their down & puffer jacket collection. The easy-wearing silhouettes are up-to-the-minute and designed for the modern, urban lifestyle. Jeans, whether skinnies or classic styles, have been reworked to fit even better and work  even harder. The new menswear is the perfect partner for the women’s range and also stars chunky knitwear, Henley tops, check shirts and leather jackets.

Furthermore the range showcases exciting new denim in a range of washes and styles, including the ever so popular rip-andrepair jeans. The colours are true to Old Khaki with burgundy, grey, charcoal and navy forming the basis of the palette. Heathered yarn was used to give jackets and shirts an attractive texture and interesting flecked appearance. Old Khaki has also prepared for the really cold weather with jackets made from heavy
twill, some lined with sheepskin or padded with duck down. The jerseys are knitted with tweed and wool blends and are warm, comfortable and perfect for layering.

Where to start? “I’d go with a long-sleeved Henley top, pair a buttoned jersey with a shawl collar, jeans and a parka jacket. With these four pieces you’re good to embrace any winter occasion!” says Aimee Levetan, Old Khaki Men’s Assistant Buyer.

Footwear

The AW16 range of women’s footwear is bigger and edgier than in previous seasons. Think suede, straps, fringes and embellishments as well as one of the shoes of the season, the ankle boot. Heels range from flats to mid-high to cater for all tastes and styles. The men’s range is made up of all the Old Khaki styles that South African men have come to know and love. Shoes and ankle boots in browns and greys to complement the new AW16 menswear selection.

Accessories

Scarves, oversized wraps and leather bags are the name of the game this winter. They come in a range of textures to make for a snug, tactile experience. For the men, Old Khaki is introducing a new range of leather wallets. The Old Khaki beanies, felt toppers and fedora hats add a cool flavour to even the most laid-back outfits. There is an array of jewellery pieces that boasts a unique accent in gold tones, multi pendants, and a touch of bohemian-charm. Explore scarves in seasonal prints and patterns, wool blends and of course, fringe details.

The AW16 women’s collection will be available in Old Khaki stores and at oldkhaki.co.za in April while the men’s collection will be introduced this month (March).
