Recipe Of The Week – Garlicky Shrimp

When it comes to good health, garlic is the herb that gets to the heart of the matter. More and more studies are shedding more light on just how garlic can protect your heart. So, before I give you your garlicky shrimp recipe, here are five ways researchers believe garlic works its wonders on your most important organ.

Garlic lowers blood pressure

According to researchers, garlic lowers blood pressure by relaxing and opening up blood vessels. Thus, using garlic instead of salt can also help lower blood pressure.

Garlic reduces blood cholesterol

According to researchers at New York Medical College, consuming as little as half a clove a day reduces cholesterol levels an average of 9%.

It increases clot dissolving activity of the blood

Garlic helps break down any clots that form . Clots develop even if you eat garlic but the herb breaks them down.

Garlic makes blood less likely to clot

It makes blood less sticky. This means you’re less likely to develop a blood clot when your blood vessels are injured. A blood clot that blocks off a blood vessel can lead to a heart attack.

Lastly, it prevents bad LDL cholesterol from being oxidized. Too much garlic , on the other hand, can cause side effects like gas, wheezing, vomiting, skin rashes etc. If you notice any of these reduce on your intake.
