In this blog, we’ll provide some helpful tips on how to clean & look after your cork yoga mat.

Why Clean Your Cork Yoga Mat?

First and foremost, it’s important to clean your yoga mat to maintain good hygiene. Over time, dirt, sweat, and natural body oils can build up on the surface of your mat.  Thereby providing a breeding ground for bacteria and other germs. By cleaning your mat regularly, you can prevent the spread of harmful bacteria. Plus keep your Sacred practice space clean and sanitary.

Additionally, regular cleaning can help prolong the life of your cork yoga mat. Cork is a natural material that is porous and can absorb moisture, so it’s important to keep it clean and dry to prevent mould or mildew from developing. With proper care, your cork yoga mat can last for years, providing a comfortable and supportive surface for your practice.

How Often Should You Clean Your Cork Yoga Mat?

The frequency with which you clean your cork yoga mat will depend on how often you practice and how much you sweat. As a general rule, we recommend wiping down your mat after each use with a damp cloth to remove any surface dirt or sweat. This will help prevent dirt and oil build-up and keep your mat fresh and clean.

If you practice at home and don’t sweat too much, you can get away with a quick clean every two to three weeks. However, if you practice regularly and sweat more, you may want to clean your mat more often. We recommend wiping down your mat at least once a week to remove any dirt or sweat and prevent the growth of bacteria.

For those who practice hot yoga or other intense styles, it’s a good idea to give your mat a quick wipe-down after each session to remove any sweat or dirt. This will help prevent the mat from becoming slippery and maintain good hygiene.
