Weekly Mandala: How To Draw A Mandala

At first glance, drawing a mandala might seem like an impossible task. Fortunately these designs are pretty easy to draw.

They look fancy, but mandalas are actually fairly simple to draw especially if you know how to approach the process. Today, I’m going to look at how to draw mandalas as a relaxing, meditative activity.

If you haven’t been following our weekly mandalas and want to know a little more, you can click here.

It’s not about drawing, but listening

Drawing Mandalas is not just about drawing. It’s about deeply connecting to the inner you.

In the process you learn to be more natural and build paths so your intuition can send you messages and advice when you need it. It’s also about being very committed to your creative dreams and finding ways to make it easier and more fun to stay on the right path every day.And that helps you express what’s going on inside you.

Whatever meaning you’ll get from your experience, drawing mandalas may be the most natural meditation you ever try. You don’t need to be a professional artist. I encourage you to try it with your children, partners or anyone that holds a special place in your heart.

How to draw your mandala

1.Draw a circle, then using a ruler draw two lines dividing the circle into four. The lines are just a guide and of a part of the mandala. Draw another circle inside the first one.

2.Divide the outer ring in half in each quarter to get eight sections. Start at the centre of the mandala by drawing little petals.

It’s okay to walk away from your mandala and continue later.

3.Using the lines you first drew as your guide, draw four large petals around the small flower.

4.Give your four petals a thick outline and colour in if you like. Add more petals between the four petals. It’s now time for the detail. Add dots in the petals and add more shapes above the petals.

5.Start to add rings in your new shapes. Play with shapes and patterns.Take your time and enjoy each step of the process. draw mandala 5

Remember, this is a guideline. You can totally break the rules or do anything else you want to do – it’s YOUR Mandala.

As you practice, you’ll learn how to receive (and understand!) the message behind your mandala and how it can help bring you whatever it is you need right now: healing, comfort, insights or brilliant flashes of inspiration.

If drawing is not for you, you can lose yourself in the intricate world of colouring mandalas in the Adult Colouring Book.
