Thank goodness for brothers, and sisters, as apart from our own children, they are probably the only people that are truly honest with us. My brother was visiting the other night, when I casually mentioned that I had 5kg to lose and was overweight. To which he replied, “you are looking porkie”, and then he had a good chuckle. It sounded funny to him, but it played on my mind that night when I went to bed.
The next morning, I got up and declared to my family that “Porkie is leaving home.” They all eagerly wanted to know where I was going?
I was planning on going nowhere, but I had decided to commit to losing the 5kg that I need to, and to ensure that porkie leaves home forever. With all my pregnancies, I put on over 20kg. After having our 3rd child, I went onto the Fit for Life way of eating, and lost all my weight within 3 months. On top of that I had loads of energy, which I needed at that stage, with 3 children under the age of 4. Plus, I was glowing with health. I have tried a few diet programs over the years, and have not found anything as effective as this.
The thing with me is that I am so aware of eating healthily, and having loads of fruit and vegetables, that I honestly can’t go onto banting, or any other carb free diets. The reason for this is that I always feel bad about not eating fruit, and throw a little fruit in here and there, which at times has even made me put on weight. So, I have decided to go back onto my version of Fit for Life, and see if it works for me now.
The basic ideas of the diet are as follows:
- From the time you get up in the morning until noon, you should only eat fruit, and nothing else. You can eat as much fruit as your heart desires
- Don’t ever mix proteins and starches at the same meal
- Eat a starch for lunch with salad, and a protein for dinner with veggies
